About West Lancs
West Lancashire Golf Club is one of England's oldest and most authentic links, a pure seaside course at Blundellsands on the Merseyside coast with nearly 150 years of golfing history.
Founded in 1873, West Lancashire Golf Club is among the oldest golf clubs in England, and its links course at Blundellsands has been testing golfers against the elements of the Irish Sea for generations. The classic out-and-back routing along the Merseyside shoreline produces firm, fast links turf of the highest quality, with views across Liverpool Bay that place the round firmly in the tradition of great seaside golf. The club has hosted the Amateur Championship and European Tour events, confirming a championship heritage that stretches across more than a century.

West Lancs
West Lancashire Golf Club occupies a place in English golf history that its relative modesty as an institution does not always reflect. Founded in 1873, it predates many of the clubs that are now better known, and the quality of its links has been proven across generations of championship play. The course at Blundellsands is pure links golf: firm turf, natural undulations shaped by coastal wind and tide, and a routing that uses the shoreline to create a consistent directional challenge throughout the round.
The Lancashire coast between Crosby and Southport is one of the most remarkable stretches of links land in the world. Royal Birkdale, Hillside and Southport & Ainsdale are all within a few miles, and together they form a concentration of links quality that rivals anything in Scotland or Ireland. West Lancs holds its own in that company: the course is a genuine test by any standard, and its championship history gives it a credibility that newer venues cannot claim.
The setting at Blundellsands, where the residential streets of a Merseyside suburb give way abruptly to open links land and sea views, is characteristically unpretentious. West Lancs is not a place that sells itself; it relies on the quality of the golf and the warmth of its welcome. For golfers making the trip to the Lancashire coast, a round at West Lancs alongside one or more of its famous neighbours represents one of the finest links itineraries available anywhere in England.

Ben Coughenour7 months agoOnly my second round playing true links golf, visiting from the US, West Lancashire was quite possibly the best experience from start to finish that I’ve ever had at a golf club. Everyone at the club were extremely welcoming and seemed honored that I chose to play a round there on my trip to the UK. Additionally, I was surprised with a first tee gift: a gift box including a stainless steel flask and mini bottle of scotch, both of which had the crest of the club on them. I was sure to leave with a pin flag to commemorate the day, and I can’t wait to be back.
Joe Hart3 years agoWhat a fantastic golf course, a true links . Everything about this venue is first class, from the staff in the bar , to the starter, to the guys in the pro shop. This was a 65th birthday gift from my son and we both enjoyed every second of the day. I would recommend, if you like links golf , this is a must. I know I will treat myself again to a round here again.👍⛳
Adam Oliver2 years agoQuality varied links golf and a course that rewards course management and calculated risk taking! Wind swirls here so a course planner is handy to read the green hollows (it has a whole page for each green plus the whole itself). I’ve played royal liverpool and it reminded me of this. It’s got more features and elevation that Hoylake though, which I thought kept it interesting. The back nine is tough with a hard 6 to finish. Fab practice facilities too. Chipping green, putting green and all-weather range where you can buy balls. Full rack rate is a bit steep for me but luckily I was a guest of a member. Felt very privileged to be out there and enjoyed every step!
