About Woking
Woking Golf Club is one of Surrey's most historically significant courses, a compact and demanding heathland where precision has always mattered more than power.
Founded in 1893 and laid out on the sandy heathland of Surrey, Woking occupies a distinguished place not only in English golf but in the broader history of the game. The club was home to John Low, one of the most influential figures in the early codification of golf's rules, whose work helped establish the principles that still govern the game today. The course itself is a classic of the Surrey school: heather, pine, and sandy soil combine to create a layout where accurate driving is essential and where every hole has a distinct character.

Woking
England's Surrey heathland belt is one of the great concentrations of inland golf anywhere in the world, and Woking is among its founding members. The club predates many of its more famous neighbours and carries with it a weight of golfing history that few courses can match. John Low's presence at the club in the early twentieth century means that Woking has a legitimate claim to having shaped the game itself, not just offered a venue in which to play it.
On the course, the demands are both intellectual and technical. The heather that lines the fairways is penal rather than decorative, and the bunkering reflects a design philosophy where placement, not length, determines the quality of a score. Golfers who appreciate traditional, unadorned heathland will find Woking deeply satisfying. It sits comfortably in the company of Worplesdon, West Hill and Sunningdale as part of Surrey's enduring contribution to the architecture of British golf.

Marcus Rayer2 months agoA lovely traditional golf club and a lovey course. The course played very well despite previous poor weather.
Mike Dove2 months agoA great heathland course and one of the three W’s, the others being Worplesdon and West Hill. Superb club house and staff, the food is one of the best.
Golfarzt2 years agoPlayed the course nov. 3rd after heavy rainfall. Course nevertheless in good condition. Exceptional beautiful golf course, huge trees around, hilly, bunkers surrounded by heather, very large greens with nice slopes. Looks like Augusta! The course is so much better than Walton Heath and costs the half. The two professionals are very kind, the staff in the restaurant also. Clubhouse nice also. Woking is an absolute recommendation. But be aware of the heather!
