About Tenby
Tenby Golf Club, founded in 1888, holds the distinction of being the oldest golf club in Wales, a clifftop links of real character above one of the country's most beautiful seaside towns.
Perched on the clifftops above Tenby in Pembrokeshire, Tenby Golf Club was established in 1888, making it the oldest golf club in [Wales](/locations/wales). The course occupies a natural clifftop plateau with panoramic views across Carmarthen Bay to the Gower Peninsula and beyond, and the firm, fast turf of the links ground ensures that conditions change significantly with the wind direction and season. The club has hosted the Welsh Amateur Championship and other national events, and visitor access is available throughout the week, with advance booking recommended during the summer months.

Tenby
There is a particular satisfaction in playing a course that has been here from the beginning, and at Tenby, founded in 1888 as the oldest golf club in Wales, that sense of historical continuity is palpable from the moment you arrive. The clifftop setting is immediately striking: the course occupies a promontory above the town with the sea visible on multiple sides and the Pembrokeshire coastline unfolding in both directions. This is links golf in a landscape of exceptional natural beauty, and the combination of golfing challenge and scenic reward places Tenby firmly among the most satisfying courses in Wales.
The course itself is a genuine links, with the firm, close-cropped turf and natural undulations that distinguish this style of golf from its parkland counterpart. The clifftop elevation means that the wind is rarely absent, and its direction largely determines the character of any given round: a benign westerly that assists the outward half can become a stern headwind on the way home, transforming a comfortable scorecard into something more testing. Several holes run along the clifftop edge, where the views across Carmarthen Bay provide a distraction that requires some discipline to resist.
Tenby sits naturally alongside Pennard and Royal St David's as one of the three most significant links experiences in Wales, and its historical status as the country's oldest golf club adds a dimension that purely golfing considerations cannot capture. The town below, with its medieval walls, three beaches, and robust independent food scene, makes Tenby one of the most complete golf destinations in Wales, a place where the round is the centrepiece of a longer, more varied visit.

Andrew Tomlinson5 months agoAbsolutely brilliant course, not the longest but the layout, design and natural landscape make this a challenging round of golf. Some incredible views of Tenby and its beaches that would rival any golf course. When I played the course was in fantastic condition and the greens were fast and true. Met a couple of members afterwards who were both lovely and also very proud to call Tenby their home course! Would highly recommend coming here.
Tony Russell5 months agoExcellent links course in great condition. Lovely compact Dormy rooms. Friendly staff and great restaurant.
Rhod Lewisa year agoPlayed Tenby for the first time just before Christmas 2024 after a period of atrocious weather. To our amazement there wasn’t a single wet or soggy patch anywhere on the course, which was in amazingly good condition for the time of year. We managed to get a £50 deal which included a bacon roll and coffee on arrival, which we had in the newly refurbished clubhouse overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green. The course is a proper Links with lots of blind holes and undulations. The view from the elevated tee looking out over Tenby beach towards the town itself is worth the green fee alone. If you have a chance, play it, you won’t be disappointed!
