About Pennard
Pennard is one of the most scenically spectacular golf courses in Britain, perched on the clifftops of the Gower Peninsula above Three Cliffs Bay.
Founded in 1896, Pennard Golf Club occupies a clifftop plateau on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, an area designated as the UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The course is a natural hybrid of clifftop heathland and links, with dramatic elevation changes, views across Oxwich Bay and the Bristol Channel, and the constant presence of the wind as a playing factor. The ruined Pennard Castle, a medieval fortress, sits alongside the 5th green, adding a layer of historical atmosphere that few courses anywhere can match. Pennard is visitor-friendly and one of the most accessible of [Wales's](/locations/wales) top-ranked courses.

Pennard
The Gower Peninsula attracted designation as Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for reasons that become immediately apparent the moment you step onto Pennard's first tee. The clifftop setting is genuinely dramatic: the fairways tumble and twist across ground shaped by coastal erosion and ancient geology, with views to Three Cliffs Bay below and the Bristol Channel beyond, and on a clear day, the hills of Devon visible on the horizon. This is golf in a landscape that demands your attention on and off the ball.
The course itself rewards those who embrace the terrain rather than resist it. No two lies are level, the turf is firm and fast in the manner of true links ground, and the wind is almost always a factor, shifting direction enough to make club selection a genuine creative challenge on every round. The medieval ruin of Pennard Castle beside the 5th green is not merely a visual curiosity: it is a reminder that this clifftop has been significant to human life for centuries, and that the golf course is simply its most recent, and arguably most joyful, occupation.
Pennard sits alongside Tenby and Royal St David's as one of the defining links experiences in Wales, but its character is entirely its own. The combination of clifftop drama, heathland turf, and historical atmosphere places it in a category that is genuinely hard to replicate. For golfers who have exhausted the obvious links destinations in Scotland and Ireland, the Gower Peninsula represents one of Britain's most rewarding and underrated detours.

David Hester9 months agoOutstanding views, have played several times currently in the worst condition I have seen it as brown and burnt out by May dry spell.Normally lush. Well worth a visit just for the views. Personally I like it just needs rain
Vegan Happy2 years agoOne of the best and the hardest golf course I have ever played. Fantastic links golf with great costal views. Fab greens in immaculate conditions. Driving range next to the club house and fully equipped pro shop. Excellent club house, very friendly and competent staff, great variety of meals (also for vegetarians and vegans!). 100+% recommendation to play this course!
Andy Rawlins2 years agoIf you want an easy golf course to play then don't play at Pennard, it's a good test for any golfer, especially when the wind blows. It plays like a links, very undulating fairways and fast rolling greens. The views are amazing, so even if the course is beating you up you'll enjoy the walk.
