Walton Heath (Old Course)

The Old Course at Walton Heath sits on a plateau south of London, elevated enough to catch every shift in the wind and exposed enough to make even moderate breezes feel significant. Fowler's routing makes excellent use of the natural ground, with fairways that run through corridors of heather and dogwood, demanding both precision and the willingness to take on lines that shorten the hole but carry genuine risk. The par fours are long and unforgiving, and the two-shot holes on the back nine in particular have a habit of undoing promising rounds.

Walton Heath also has the New Course, itself a highly regarded layout, but the Old Course carries the greater prestige and the deeper history. Together they make the club one of the outstanding two-course venues in England, attracting serious golfers from across the country who are prepared for a proper test of their game.
