About The Addington
The Addington is J.F. Abercromby's heathland masterpiece on the southern edge of London, a private Surrey course of exceptional architectural imagination featuring dramatic ravine holes and views to the capital.
Founded in 1913 in Addington, on the southern fringe of London, The Addington Golf Club is the most architecturally ambitious work of J.F. Abercromby, a designer whose small body of work is held in the highest regard by students of golf course architecture. The course cuts across heathland terrain laced with deep ravines, producing holes of extraordinary variety and visual drama, with views extending to the Crystal Palace transmitter and the London skyline. A private members' club of the first order, The Addington offers a golf experience unlike anything else in Surrey.

The Addington
The Addington occupies a position in the pantheon of British golf architecture that its relative obscurity does not fully reflect. J.F. Abercromby designed only a handful of courses, but The Addington is the one that demonstrates most completely his capacity for original thinking. The ravines that cut across the heathland are not merely decorative obstacles but structural elements that shape the routing, create natural amphitheatres around certain greens and demand that golfers think carefully about angles of approach that on other courses would be straightforward. The result is a course that requires full engagement on every hole and rewards those who take the time to understand it.
The views to the London skyline from the heathland above Addington add a dimension to the experience that is peculiar to this part of England. The Crystal Palace transmitter, visible from several points on the course, provides a geographical anchor that reminds the golfer of the extraordinary proximity of this wild, heathery terrain to one of the world's great cities. That contrast between the urban horizon and the natural Surrey landscape is one of the things that makes The Addington genuinely singular among British heathland courses.
Founded in 1913, the club has maintained the integrity of Abercromby's original design while ensuring that the course is presented to the highest standards. For serious students of golf architecture, The Addington is an essential visit: a course where the design ambition is immediately apparent and deepens with every subsequent round. Among Surrey's many fine heathland clubs, it stands apart for the sheer originality of its architecture, a quality that Abercromby achieved only once at this level, and that has made The Addington a course of lasting and well-deserved reputation.

Tennis WithDennis2 months agoWhat a fabulous golf course! Welcoming staff. Nice club shop staff. Green keeper staff everywhere working hard and very respectful to players. The course is brilliant and every hole is a different challenge. Loved it.
Evos 119 months agoThoroughly enjoyed our day at The Addington GC. Our group being from Australia and Norway, Phil and Nigel in the pro shop couldn’t have been friendlier or more responsive to our queries pre round. Then, on arrival they shared their knowledge of club history and the restoration work. The course was super interesting and they’ve done an excellent job on the restoration. Removing trees to open up playing corridors, improve turf conditions and strong bunkering. A solid test with the elevation change and bunkers. The par 3’s and short 4’s were the standouts for mine. Some quirky holes, strong green complexes and aesthetics. Highly recommend
Mr Duckwooda year agoA very good test of Golf and a course that has gone through significant redevelopment in the last few years. There were some truly fantastic par 3s some very challenging par 4s and a couple of interesting par 5s as well. Due to a lot of the felling of trees, the aesthetic of the course will perhaps take another 2 to 3 years to really mature. I think this could be an unbelievable course when they finish the work and the changes look more natural. I do think the clubhouse needs updating, but I believe there are plans to do that as well Would highly recommend playing here as it is a very good test of Golf
