About Seaton Carew
Seaton Carew is one of England's oldest golf clubs, a natural links on the Durham coast near Hartlepool that has been testing golfers since 1874.
Founded in 1874, Seaton Carew Golf Club stands as one of the oldest golf clubs in England, a proper links course on the County Durham coast that has changed remarkably little in essential character over its long history. The course runs across natural linksland above the North Sea, with the distinctive industrial backdrop of the Tees estuary providing a horizon that is uniquely honest about the working landscape of the north-east. Seaton Carew has hosted the Amateur Championship and the Brabazon Trophy, and its reputation as a welcoming club makes it accessible and appealing to visitors in a way that many clubs of comparable age are not.

Seaton Carew
There are few courses in England quite as honest as Seaton Carew. The links sits on the Durham coast as it has done since 1874, exposed to whatever the North Sea chooses to deliver, with a routing that follows the natural contours of the land rather than imposing itself upon them. The turf is firm, the greens are fast and the wind is rarely absent, creating conditions that reward those who understand links golf and expose those who do not. The industrial skyline across the Tees estuary is not picturesque in a conventional sense, but it is authentic, and Seaton Carew has never pretended to be anything other than what it is: a proper, working links course in the north-east of England.
The club's championship credentials are genuine. The Amateur Championship and the Brabazon Trophy have both been staged here, confirming that the course is of a standard to examine the best amateur players in the country. Yet Seaton Carew wears these credentials without affectation, maintaining a welcoming atmosphere that makes it one of the more visitor-friendly clubs on the English links circuit. This combination of historical depth, competitive pedigree and genuine accessibility makes it one of the north of England's most valuable golf assets.
Seaton Carew's relative obscurity compared to the links courses of Scotland or the Lancashire coast is, in many respects, part of its appeal. Those who make the journey to County Durham discover a course that delivers everything that links golf should: natural terrain, genuine challenge and a sense that the game here is played much as it always has been. For golfers with an appreciation of history and an appetite for authentic links conditions, Seaton Carew is not to be overlooked.

MICK3 months agoAn absolute gem of a course. Probably the best greens I've ever played and it's November! Found it a testing course but I can't give it anything other than 5 stars. It's not cheap however and you need to be prepared to pay for the day but from starting in the pro shop and being greeted warmly to playing the 18 on a well maintained and signposted course I have no complaints.
John Booth4 months agoAbsolutely fantastic course in incredible condition. However, this course isn't for the faint hearted golfers. If you're slightly off line you are brutally punished. Fairways and greens are unbelievable for October and the ball runs truly on both. Pot bunkers are very difficult to get any length from and green side bunkers are extremely deep. A true test of linked golf ⛳
David Hewitta year agoCourse in great condition, staff and members friendly. Excellent time had and will definitely return. Booked the current deal on a Monday, bacon sandwich and a hot drink on arrival. Couldn’t have asked for more.
