About Portstewart (Strand Course)
Portstewart's Strand Course is one of the great links on the Causeway Coast, a dramatic dune landscape that announced itself to a global audience when it hosted the 2017 Irish Open.
Founded in 1894, Portstewart Golf Club operates three courses on the north Antrim coast, with the Strand Course serving as the championship layout. Added in 1981, the Strand Course is defined by its opening stretch through towering sand dunes that dwarf the fairways below, creating one of the most visually arresting sequences in Irish golf. The course sits near the Giant's Causeway on a stretch of coastline that is also home to Royal Portrush, and the hosting of the 2017 Irish Open brought it wider recognition as a venue worthy of top-level professional competition.

Portstewart (Strand Course)
Beyond the famous opening dunes, the Strand Course settles into a more varied links rhythm, with the Firth's coastline visible and the wind a constant presence that changes the playing character depending on conditions. The course rewards players who commit to their lines and accept the uncertainty that genuine links terrain always introduces. Green complexes are natural and testing without being capricious, and the overall routing makes efficient use of the considerable stretch of ground available.
The broader context of golfing Northern Ireland makes Portstewart an obvious inclusion in any Causeway Coast itinerary. Royal Portrush, host of The Open Championship, is nearby, as is Castlerock and the rest of this remarkable stretch of coast. Portstewart's Strand Course offers a level of quality and drama that stands entirely on its own merits, however, and visitors who add it to a Portrush trip invariably leave glad they made the effort.

Chris (Golf Pirate)a month agoWow! Best staff I’ve encountered at a club here, Ian the PGA pro and Laura and Ule in the pro shop are increjble. I've played the old course a few times a week since arriving and love it. Great to see the full 18 open now. Course conditions are beautiful as is the view. Clubhouse, bar and 1984 restaurant are top notch. Worth the social membership just for access. Fantastic dinner events weekly on Thurs/Fri as well.
Pablo LMC3 weeks agoWhat a course! Can't wait to see what it looks like this summer after its renovation. Special thanks to Ian at the pro shop for making us feel instantly welcome - un caballero! Look forward to playing again soon :)
Greg Mitchell7 months agoVery good course, but I am rating it less than five stars because in my opinion it did not live up to the hype. There are many good and challenging holes, but the par threes in particular felt redundant. Staff were very nice and welcoming.
