About Notts (Hollinwell)
Notts Golf Club's Hollinwell course is the Midlands' most celebrated heathland layout, a demanding and atmospheric Willie Park Jr design rooted in a landscape of heather, bracken and rolling sandy terrain.
Founded in 1887 and laid out by Willie Park Jr, the Hollinwell course takes its name from the Holy Well, a natural spring that still rises on the property. Set near Kirkby-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, the course stretches to over 7,200 yards from the back tees and presents a par 72 of genuine championship quality. The combination of heather, bracken and gorse rough means that accuracy off the tee is not merely an advantage but a necessity, and the course has tested the best amateur golfers in England through decades of national and regional championship play.

Notts (Hollinwell)
Hollinwell occupies a special place in English Midlands golf. While the great heathland courses of Surrey and Berkshire tend to attract the most attention, Hollinwell has long been regarded by knowledgeable golfers as their equal in terms of challenge and beauty. The rolling terrain, ancient sandy soil and dense heather create an environment that feels both wild and carefully considered, a credit to Willie Park Jr's skill in reading and shaping natural ground.
The course's championship pedigree is genuine. Decades of national amateur events have tested the layout against the best players in the country, and it has consistently proved itself capable of separating the field. The par 72 routing uses the contours of the land intelligently, with long par 4s that demand two precise shots and a set of par 3s that require careful club selection in any wind. For golfers travelling from outside the region, Hollinwell represents a rewarding detour into a part of England where top-quality golf is less crowded than the southern heathland belt.
Nottinghamshire may not carry the same golfing reputation as the counties that line the M3 corridor, but Hollinwell makes a compelling case for the Midlands as a serious golf destination. The club's history stretches back to 1887, giving it a depth of character that newer facilities cannot replicate. The combination of a historic course, a welcoming weekday visitor policy and a setting of outstanding natural quality makes Notts Golf Club one of the more rewarding discoveries available to golfers willing to explore beyond the familiar southern circuits.

David Charlton2 months agoNice course, nice setting, great professional shop. Shame about the members. Very rude to visitors, no patience . So not sure I will come back. Pushed and pressured all the round, snide comments. If you mix 4 balls and 3 balls up, you are going to get variations in the pace of play.
Mark Hope3 years agoAbsolutely stunning place - course and greens were in amazing condition, pro shop and club house staff were very welcoming and the scenery whilst you play is glorious. It's a tough track where the heather will punish wayward shots, but not overly long so (if only I could putt!) birdie opportunities are there to be had.
Steve Jones5 months agoOverpriced for what it is tbh, driving range is disappointing , living off its past. £95-175 per round is ridiculous, Doesn’t even call off the Golf in seriously bad weather as its wants the visitors money … However the greens where great and the course hard but fun. Just over priced ….
