About Machynys Peninsula
Machynys Peninsula is one of the most compelling modern links courses in Wales, shaped by Nicklaus Design along the tidal margins of the Burry Inlet near Llanelli.
Opened in 2005 as part of an ambitious marina development, Machynys Peninsula brings the hallmarks of classic links golf to a dramatic coastal setting in Carmarthenshire. Water features weave through the layout, estuary views stretch across to the Gower Peninsula, and the design rewards both strategic thinking and bold ball-striking. The course announced itself on the national stage by hosting the Ladies European Tour Welsh Open, establishing serious championship credentials from an early age.

Machynys Peninsula
Wales has a proud links tradition, and Machynys Peninsula stands as the most significant modern addition to that lineage. While the country's historic courses tend to cluster along the north coast, Machynys brings championship-calibre links golf to South Wales, offering a course that feels both fresh and rooted in the landscape. The Nicklaus Design pedigree is evident in the strategic layering of each hole, where multiple routes to the green and carefully positioned water hazards demand thought as much as power.
The marina development that surrounds the course gives Machynys a distinct character among UK links courses. Rather than raw dune terrain, golfers encounter a sculpted coastal environment where water is ever-present, framing fairways and guarding greens in ways that reward accuracy off the tee. Estuary breezes add another variable, and no two rounds play identically. For those exploring Wales on a golf tour, Machynys pairs well with Royal Porthcawl and Pennard to the south and east, providing a varied taste of Welsh links golf across very different landscapes.

Sue Jonesa month agoI booked a room at this venue for my husbands wake. It's a lovely venue and the room was private and very comfortable. The buffet was excellent. The staff were very helpful and respectful. The venue offered a 'memory table' which was just a lovely idea. I was very grateful for the care they took and their attention to detail.
