About JCB Golf & Country Club

Designed by Luke Donald and opened in 2020, the JCB Golf and Country Club is one of the most ambitious privately funded golf projects in England in a generation.

Opened in 2020 on the JCB estate at Rocester near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, the JCB Golf and Country Club was designed by European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald in collaboration with Lee Schmidt. Built to the highest possible specification across rolling Staffordshire countryside, the course has been constructed with a level of investment and attention to detail that is exceptionally rare in modern British golf development. Access is restricted to JCB employees, partners and invited guests, making it one of the most exclusive courses in England. Despite its limited accessibility, it has already been assessed by those who have played it as one of the finest new layouts built in England in recent decades.

The JCB Golf and Country Club represents a model of golf course development that is relatively unusual in modern Britain: a privately funded project, built without reference to commercial visitor revenue, in which the budget and the ambition were set by a single patron rather than by committee. The result is a course that bears none of the compromises that typically constrain commercial development. Luke Donald's design across the rolling Staffordshire estate has the confidence of a layout built without financial anxiety, and the construction quality, from the shaping of the fairways to the specification of the greens, reflects an investment that few clubs in England could contemplate.

Donald's design career is still in its early stages relative to the established figures in contemporary golf architecture, but the JCB course has established his credentials as a serious designer rather than simply a famous name lending credibility to a commercial project. The routing uses the natural contours of the Staffordshire countryside, incorporating changes in elevation and long views across the estate grounds that give the course a visual quality that complements its strategic interest. The holes have a clarity and variety that marks the work of a designer who understands how to build a round that holds attention from beginning to end.

The restricted access is, for most golfers, an insurmountable obstacle. The course exists at a remove from the normal world of golf tourism, and the likelihood of playing it without a direct connection to JCB or its business network is slim. This makes it an unusual entry in any ranking of England's finest courses, but the unusual nature of its access does nothing to reduce the quality of what has been built. That a course of this calibre exists on the Staffordshire estate is simply a fact, and one that those with the means to experience it report with consistent enthusiasm.

I was very fortunate to be invited to play the jcb course at Uttoxeter, and it was amazing. I have watched the world's best golfers play here so it was a real treat to walk the same fairways as them. The day in all was fantastic from the start as we were greeted by very courteous and friendly staff. Everything was 10 out of 10 from the facilities, food and the course, and our caddie for the day Richard couldn't do enough for us. A great all around experience unfortunately there are very few opportunities to play this wonderful course, so I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity

Went to LIV UK tournament. Would 100% recommend going. Brilliant setup with lots of food and drink kiosks, plenty of water stations to fill up water bottles. The atmosphere was great, couldn't get over how close you can get to the players. Brilliant.👌🏻

Few days ago, I visited the JCB Golf and Country Club for the second time, and I must say, it continues to impress me. This time, I went because of the LIV Golf event that was held there, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The course is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen, well designed, perfectly maintained, and set in such a peaceful and scenic environment. Everything about the event felt well-organised, from the layout of the course to the facilities provided. You could tell that a lot of thought and planning went into making sure everything ran smoothly. It was clear that both the organisers and the staff worked hard to make the experience enjoyable not just for the players, but also for the visitors. I’m quite certain the professional golfers who played there appreciated the standard and atmosphere as much as the fans did. One of the highlights of the course for me is the lake. It’s absolutely stunning, clean, well-kept, and adds so much to the beauty of the surroundings. If you’ve never been to JCB Golf and Country Club, I highly recommend visiting at least once. After that, it’s likely you’ll want to return again, just like I did.
