About Formby
Formby Golf Club offers something found nowhere else in British golf: a classic links threaded through corridors of Scots pine, where red squirrels inhabit the trees above greens of the highest quality.
Founded in 1884, Formby Golf Club occupies a singular position in the landscape between the Lancashire coast and the Merseyside town of Formby, where ancient pine forest and sand dune linksland meet in a combination that is unique to this part of England. The course runs through tight avenues of pine and open sandhill terrain in roughly equal measure, demanding both accuracy under the trees and the feel for links golf that open stretches require. A private members' club that has hosted numerous prestigious amateur championships, Formby is also home to a red squirrel sanctuary, one of only a small number of strongholds remaining for the species in England.

Formby
The pine tree sections at Formby bring a parkland quality to a course that is otherwise entirely links in character, and this contrast gives the round an unusual rhythm. Shots under the canopy require a lower, penetrating flight, while holes out on the open sandhills call for the higher, shaped shots that exposure to the wind demands. The greens are consistently excellent and the bunkering, set naturally within the sandhill terrain, has a settled, age-worn quality that feels entirely appropriate.
Formby sits within the Lancashire links belt that includes Royal Birkdale, Hillside and Southport and Ainsdale, making it part of one of the finest stretches of links golf in England. The nearby asparagus fields, once a distinctive feature of the local agriculture, have diminished over the decades, but the broader character of the area remains intact. For any golfer visiting the north-west of England, Formby belongs on the itinerary alongside its more famous neighbours up and down this coastline.

The young lad in the pro shop was very friendly and there was just a lovely vibe around the place. We were lucky and got perfect weather for the day. A memorable days golf!
