About Burnham & Berrow
Burnham and Berrow is the great links of the south of England, a championship course through towering dunes in Somerset that rivals anything on the Lancashire or Scottish coasts.
Founded in 1890 at Burnham-on-Sea on the Somerset coast, Burnham and Berrow Golf Club operates one of the most demanding and least-heralded championship links in England. The Championship Course stretches to 6,840 yards through a sequence of towering sand dunes that rivals the duneland of Lancashire or the Lothians for scale and drama, and the 18th tee offers a view westward across the Bristol Channel to the hills of Wales. The club also operates the shorter Channel Course, a 9-hole layout on adjacent ground. Visitor access is available on weekdays, with advance booking required.

Burnham & Berrow
The reputation of English links golf is built almost entirely on the courses of Lancashire, Kent, and Norfolk, and in that familiar narrative, Somerset rarely gets a mention. Burnham and Berrow has been quietly confounding that oversight since 1890, operating a championship links of unmistakable quality in a county not generally associated with serious golf. The sand dunes at Burnham-on-Sea are the defining feature of the course: they rise to considerable height in places and create a series of enclosed, dramatic holes that feel entirely separate from the flat Somerset Levels visible from the higher ground.
The Championship Course has a scale and severity that surprises golfers encountering it for the first time. At 6,840 yards through duneland terrain, with the wind off the Bristol Channel a near-constant presence, it is a thorough examination of links technique across every department of the game. The turf conditions are firm and fast in the manner of the best traditional links, and the natural movement of the fairways ensures that a straight shot does not always guarantee a level lie. Several holes require precise positioning off the tee to avoid the most punishing dune slopes, rewarding course knowledge and strategic thinking over raw power.
What distinguishes Burnham and Berrow from many links courses of comparable quality is the sense of quiet confidence in its identity. It has never sought the profile of the Open Championship venues, but it has hosted the English Amateur Championship and maintained a standard of golf and presentation that consistently impresses those who make the journey. For golfers based in the south of England, or those travelling along the M5 corridor, it is one of the strongest arguments for detouring off the motorway, and the view westward from the 18th tee across the Channel to the hills of Wales is alone worth the visit.

What Golfers Say About Burnham & Berrow
A selection of recent visitor reviews from Google.
Michael Swift5 months ago"I had waited a long time to play on the Championship Course at Burnham and Berrow and it didn't disappoint" I am the Secretary/ Organiser of a small golf society from Derbyshire and we recently visited this splendid venue on our annual golf weekend. From the moment I entered the Pro shop to introduce myself I was made to feel welcome and I was given all the information we needed for our round and the head Pro was most helpful in selecting the appropriate course for our party and advised which hole for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive. The clubhouse and staff were fantastic and some of our party had some food which they all enjoyed. We then made our way to the first tee where we were greeted by Martin the starter who again was most informative about the course and the correct lines to use on the blind shots etc. Then we took to the course itself and what a course it is. I have been organising our weekend society breaks for many years now and we have played at many links courses all over the country but pretty much every one our members agreed that this course was the finest by far. It was an incredible experience to say the least but sadly my golf didn't quite match our surroundings but the day will live long in the memory. I have a feeling that our group will be insisting on a return sooner rather than later and I can't wait. Anybody who gets the opportunity to play on this incredible track they should grab it with both hands.
Peter Curtis7 months agoOh my goodness what a treat. We were three couples and we stayed in the Dormy house. Just perfect. Only minor issue was the USBs in the sockets didn't work. The course was magnificent, great condition and the fairways were running fast following the hot weather. The wind was kind which made a tough course playable. The food and service in the clubhouse was good and the Head professional and her team could not have been more kind or welcoming, good practice failities and a gem of a starter who briefed us well. Thank you B&B, highly recommended and will definitley return.
Ant D6 months agoPlayed both courses, Channel and Championship, both challenging and in great condition despite the vandalism to the greens some weeks before. Staff provided a warm welcome and food was very good and drinks reasonably priced. I would definitely visit again.
