About Ashburnham
Ashburnham is one of west Wales's most characterful golf courses, a links and heathland hybrid of genuine antiquity set on open common land above Carmarthen Bay.
Founded in 1894, Ashburnham Golf Club is among the oldest clubs in Wales, and its course reflects a history of golf played on natural, largely unaltered ground. Situated near Burry Port in Carmarthenshire, the layout runs across open common land with wide views across Llanelli Bay and the Gower Peninsula to the south. The combination of links and heathland holes gives the course a distinctly varied character, with the natural undulations and wind exposure of a coastal site matched by the firmer, drier turf of the heath. It has hosted the Welsh Amateur Championship on multiple occasions, confirming its credentials as a serious test of the game.

Ashburnham
West Wales is not the first region that comes to mind when golfers plan a serious links trip, but Ashburnham makes a compelling case for the area. The Carmarthenshire coast is less celebrated than the Bridgend and Gower stretches further east, but the golf at Ashburnham is of a quality that merits the detour. The course has been played on essentially the same ground for well over a century, and that continuity gives it a settled, unhurried character that newer developments rarely achieve.
The layout's mix of links and heathland holes is not a compromise but a genuine strength. Where many courses are defined by a single character, Ashburnham shifts register as the round progresses: open, wind-exposed holes across the coastal common give way to firmer, more sheltered sections where the turf takes on a heathland quality. Local knowledge matters here in a way that it rarely does on more formulaic layouts, and the course rewards repeat visits in a way that more immediately legible designs do not.
The views from the course across Llanelli Bay and toward the Gower Peninsula provide a constant reminder of the quality of the setting. The Gower, the first place in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sits on the horizon throughout the round. For golfers interested in Wales as a serious golf destination, Ashburnham is one of the courses that best illustrates the depth and variety that the country has to offer beyond its most famous names.

Andrew Davies11 months agoGreat golf course, very windy but nice in the summer. A lovely clubhouse with friendly, helpful staff. I will be playing there again.
Vegan Happy2 years agoLovely traditional and good quality links course. Not so difficult to navigate around there as first time visitors. Bring a few more balls in your bag as the rough can be tough there, especially on the second nine. Club staff are friendly and welcoming,
