About Aldeburgh
Aldeburgh Golf Club is a traditional Suffolk heathland course founded in 1884, set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offering views across the Alde estuary to the sea.
One of the oldest and most atmospheric golf clubs in East Anglia, Aldeburgh Golf Club was founded in 1884 on heathland above the Suffolk coast. The main championship course winds through classic heath and bracken terrain with views across the River Alde estuary and, on clear days, out to the North Sea. Alongside the main course sits the shorter River Course, making Aldeburgh a destination that caters well to golfers of varying abilities. The club sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the town of Aldeburgh, which is internationally known for the music festival founded by composer Benjamin Britten.

Aldeburgh
Aldeburgh's setting is among the most evocative of any golf club in England. The heathland terrain, shaped by centuries of coastal weather, provides a naturally dramatic stage for golf, with gorse, heather and bracken defining the rough and the estuary glittering in the distance on fine days. The main course stretches across rolling ground that rewards both length and accuracy, presenting a genuine examination of the full range of shots over its 18 holes. The shorter River Course offers a complementary experience within the same landscape, making the club a rewarding destination for a full day of golf.
The wider Aldeburgh context adds considerably to the appeal of a visit. The town is internationally known as the home of the Aldeburgh Festival, the celebrated music festival founded by the composer Benjamin Britten, who lived and worked in the area for much of his career. The combination of world-class golf, outstanding natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage makes Aldeburgh a destination that rewards exploration beyond the course itself. The Suffolk coast, with its shingle beaches, nature reserves and traditional fishing communities, provides an unhurried backdrop that sets this part of England apart.
For golfers seeking a course that feels genuinely rooted in its landscape and its community, Aldeburgh offers an experience that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. Founded in 1884 and still operating as a private members' club, it carries its history lightly while maintaining standards that fully justify its place among the leading courses in East Anglia. A round here, followed by an evening in Aldeburgh town, makes for one of the more satisfying days golf in England can provide.
